The yearly state competition Avishkar, is a student competition for UG and PG students to come up with new and innovative ideas in the field of Science.
I participated in the Avishkar 2015 contest as a first year UG student and designed a concept for automated detection and penalization of traffic light offenders and road tax collection.

System Design:
An overhead gantry with an RFID Transceiver and Micro -controller Unit needs to be installed at traffic signals.
An RFID tag must be installed within the chassis of the vehicle and the bank details of the vehicle owner must be linked with the same.
The RFID readers in the gantry at traffic signals would be switched ON when the traffic light is RED. If a vehicle skips the red light; the RFID tag inside the vehicle would get scanned by the reader.
The MCU within the gantry would then transmit this data in real time to a server which would deduct a fixed fine amount from the bank account linked to the car.
A similar overhead gantry can also be used to automatically deduct road tax from vehicles on the highway.
A gantry placed on the highway would automatically detect the RFID tags of multiple vehicles passing from below it at high speeds and deduct a fixed amount from their banks automatically.
To showcase my concept I created a simple styrofoam model and designed poster explaining the concept, its implementation and the technologies used in it for better understanding.
